Earlier today, Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse discussed some details about the band’s recent string of songwriting sessions leading up to a future album. It’s been a little over two years since their previous album, Now What?!, and a follow up markedĀ for 2016 is an extraordinary pace of release dates for a band hailed as pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock.
High flying legends like Black Sabbath and Van Halen have left an influential legacy similar to Deep Purple’s, but have had little to no album production in the new millennium. DP’s last album was a triumphant collection of polished material that applied their familiar guitar/keyboard combination to generate an eloquent tone that only they can execute perfectly. Today’s announcement is a pleasing forewarning that Deep Purple isn’t losing any steam as they age, and bringing their latest batch into the studio will feel as natural to them as ever.
