The tragic death of Christina Grimmie has left many shocked and mournful. Now, It’s being viewed as a security infringement and some feel that there isn’t enough being done to prevent these avoidable tragedies. Pantera weighed in on the subject by pleading for a difference to be made in the industry.
This facebook message was posted the day after she was fatally shot while signing autographs following a concert performance in Orlando. Unfortunately, It completely reflects the same incident that occurred 12 years ago to Dimebag Darrell during the first and last Damageplan tour.
Afterwards, members of Pantera have demanded more action be taken to give artists the protection they need on and off stage. The shooting also shook the rock community and put musicians on edge, believing this could turn into a serious problem for performers.
Anthrax‘s Scott Ian stated, “I’m just [always] wondering if there’s a dude running behind me now [on stage] and it could be the most innocent thing in the world, but how could I not think about what happened to Darrell?”
Especially in the thrash metal scene where moshing and stage diving is expected to happen, how could you differentiate between a fan and a potential threat? Also, you couldn’t make it any easier from the stage access to the impression that anything they do might just look violent.
It might be impossible to identify, but one thing that could help reduce this epidemic as an issue is additional security. Artists should never have to live in fear and deserve anything they need to feel safe.
