THIRD ANNUAL RIDE FOR RONNIE JAMES DIO – CONCERT REVIEW

This Sunday was another glorious anniversary full of music and donations!

The 3rd Annual Ride For Ronnie Motorcycle Ride and Concert continued the yearly tradition of honoring the late Ronnie James Dio. All payment that makes the entire event possible goes straight to the Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

It all started early in the morning at the Harley Davidson in Glendale where people came for a quick breakfast and to ready up for the ride to Los Encinos Park.

A couple of the riders included Wendy Dio, Lita Ford and Sean McNabb. After everybody gathered for a group picture, the concert was officially set in motion.

This is a rare event where you can find platinum-selling artists socializing with one another and wandering about within walking distance of each other.

Eddie Trunk hosted the concert and participated in a series of auctions, giving away autographed guitars and signed merchandise. The payment also goes directly to the SUAS organization.

The event was full of a wide selection of different yet like-minded bands.

Eddie Money entertained the crowd, belting out his hit songs one by one with his talented daughter on vocals and his son playing rhythm guitar. Eddie also uplifted the audience with some jokes in between his set for comic relief.

The day was off and on between cloudy and rainy, however it didn’t spoil the performances one bit. Rough Cutt delivered an excellent show with frontman Paul Shortino wielding an umbrella for most of the set.

One of the highlights of the day included an incredible tribute to RJD with a cover of Hear N’ Aid‘s Stars. Every musician crowded onto the stage and contributed with plenty of backing vocals.

Another VIP was ex- Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler himself!

Alongside his All-Star band (consisting of Jeff Pilson, Ace Von Johnson, Robert Sarzo and Patrick Stone), they executed a phenomenal performance, receiving a tremendous reaction for Welcome To The Jungle and Rocket Queen.

Dio’s Disciples blew the crowd away with their impressive RJD compilation setlist. They started off with a Rainbow classic, Kill The King and spanned through his Black Sabbath and solo career eras. Many were amazed by the prestigious playing of Craig Goldy, not missing a single note.

Lynch Mob brought a terrific close to the afternoon with the incredible duo of Oni Logan and George Lynch. The band cranked out Dokken tunes as well as their own material, making it an epic finale as the rain came down heavily during the last song.

After running away under the weather conditions, I felt a sense of satisfaction in the event itself. Although Ronnie could not be present, his legacy has touched the lives of everyone who had arranged and attended the concert.

Especially the members of Dio’s Disciples who had the honor of sharing the stage with RJD. The afternoon was organized by those who were close with Ronnie and each person that volunteered kept the spirit alive for yet another year.

That’s what the Annual Ride For Ronnie events come down to: a memorial service and celebration of music!

Thanks to the wonderful PR Staff behind the scenes of this year’s Ride For Ronnie event, I had the opportunity to interview ex- Dio and current Dio’s Disciples guitarist: Craig Goldy!

Stay tuned  for the full interview coming soon…
