THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE WINTER OLYMPICS

Now that the Winter Olympics have finished, it’s time to reflect on one particular moment that defied all expectations and turned heads in the rock/metal community. That was the entrance of Hungarian figure skater Ivett Tóth blasting AC/DC as her routine soundtrack while donning a studded leather vest complete with an Angus Young path on the back.

This year’s international coverage of the Olympics was a series of tradition, following the professional standards as always. The women’s figure skating event is usually a stream of classical music set as backdrops for the sake of tradition.

However, it was Tóth who stepped outside these conventions of elegant clothing and 18th century music to demonstrate the art of self expression. Playing a medley of Back In Black and Thunderstruck, the judges were quick to cry out in disbelief at the mere sight of individualism.

Twitter was just as fast at setting the record straight, praising how creative it was to add a modern twist to the ageless sport. Now, my only concern is what future Coldplay fans are gonna blast in the ice rink when they feel inspired by Tóth’s performance. But, hopefully it’ll never come to that.

For once in a long time, a rock band brought the whole world together in admiration. That’s why this stunt got transpired into global eye candy. It was a badass moment that won’t be forgotten.

To Ivett Tóth… We salute you!
