2017 proved to be a satisfying year for thrash metal fans and glam rockers alike, but there’s more where that came from.
Throughout the year, many bands were announcing new material and scheduling tour dates for the months to come. Lucky for us, there’s plenty to enjoy as we see all the releases until May before getting a glimpse of the rest of the year.
January is home to countless black and viking metal groups along with a comeback album from NWOBHM legends Trespass, Footprints in the Rock. Likewise, White Wizzard will return with their studio effort, Infernal Overdrive, leading the NWOTHM movement into 2018.
Thrash metal icons Anvil are releasing Pounding the Pavement on the 19th. Meanwhile, Zakk Wylde also has plans for Black Label Society to put out Grimmest Hits on that same day.
Japan’s very own Loudness will launch their twenty-seventh album, Rise to Glory, on the 26th. Simultaneously, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons are coming out with The Age of Absurdity as well as Phil Anselmo & the Illegals with Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue.
In February, Saxon are back with a new album, Thunderbolt, and embarking on a tour alongside Judas Priest and Black Star Riders.
Guns N’ Roses keyboardist, Dizzy Reed, will be launching his solo career with Rock ‘n Roll Ain’t Easy on the 16th.
March will kick off heavy with the release of Hadeon by death metal giants Pestilence.
In May, the criminally underrated Iron Angel will put out new material for the first time since 1986.
There’s tons of other albums confirmed for 2018 such as Judas Priest‘s Firepower expected sometime in March. Possessed signed with Nuclear Blast a few months back and announced a new album for the first time in 32 years. Artists including Megadeth, Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Exodus, Diamond Head, Skull Fist, and Overkill‘s D.D. Verni are all hinting at releasing new music but no official date has been revealed yet.
Overall, it looks like another promising year full of amazing tunes and tours for rock/metal fans all around the world.
