In an age where social media\u00a0has become an unstoppable platform for news and gossip, it’s not surprising to get a few bizarre altercations here and there. This past month has seen its fair share of unexpected statements from different rock personalities. From Gene Simmons<\/strong>‘ comment about Prince<\/strong>\u00a0to Sebastian Bach<\/strong>\u00a0Twitter feud with William Shatner, these incidents are openly presented\u00a0thanks to the convenience\u00a0of the internet.<\/p>\n

Many have gotten burned for opening their mouth and speaking their mind about topics too controversial to discuss. Once someone decides\u00a0to post opinion-based criticism, the backlash is immediate and becomes a BLABBERMOUTH article within hours.<\/p>\n

Back when Hit Parader<\/em> and Circus Magazine<\/em> were\u00a0the place to find “heated” interviews, it was generally a small\u00a0remark\u00a0that didn’t go further than one sentence. However, it’s a lot easier for artists to get their word out today especially if their\u00a0delivery isn’t as professional as their on-stage performances.<\/p>\n

Social media has\u00a0become an obstacle of its own and one poor\u00a0judgement call can paint someone in a bad light. A decent public image is now a constant struggle to sustain and even more so for those who are upfront and outspoken.<\/p>\n

These statements become broadcasted and destroy the credibility of musicians. While rockstars like Ted Nugent<\/strong> might already have enough controversies surrounding themselves, it’s the huge amount of online exposure that can spread like wildfire and ruin people like Steve Miller<\/strong> who have nothing more than a mind of their own.<\/p>\n

So, as powerful as the internet is,\u00a0does this hurt musicians’ reputation more often than not?<\/p>\n

Dave Mustaine<\/strong>, who is known for consistently reaching out to fans on Twitter, has stated: “I think social media can be used for good too.
